According to the latest draft of the so called “Legge Delega” about fiscal regulation improvements, online gambling providers will probably have to subject to new, more stringent regulations for their Italian activities.
If those provisions will be confirmed in the final Law (that should come in force by the end of this year), rules about obligations, responsibilities and guarantees of online gambling providers will be reformed within acts to be issued by the government (under the parliamentary delegation) during 2014.
Therefore, producers and distributors of online software and procedures, dedicated to gambling offer and management, should face more stringent compliance rules regarding the Italian business.
Those potential changes could lead to specific licenses for software providers – as already ruled for the Spanish market – enhancing the regulated market structure, albeit a so complex level of compliance could reduce competition opportunities for small gaming software providers.
Further regulations should also come regarding testing laboratories working on gaming machines and systems, working on different responsibilities of laboratories, manufacturers and commercial operators.
